Sandy’s aftermath: Weston deals with power outages, flooding, road closures

The town of Weston is a mess in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. According to a Code Red message released this morning, there are 93 known road closures in Weston, many involving downed power wires.

Access in and out of Weston is limited at best, and neighboring towns, especially those to the south, are still dealing with major flooding issues.

The town is asking residents to remain off the roads to allow Weston emergency crews to do their jobs.

There is no estimate for power restoration. 99% of the town remains without power. Town officials are aware of the situation and are coordinating with town, regional and state authorities. They are beginning make-safe operations this morning.

The comfort station, an emergency facility for residents, was supposed to open at Weston High School following the storm, but has not opened yet because of limited access.

At Weston Town Center, Peter’s Market has groceries and hot food available and Weston Hardware is open for business.
