Joseph J. Peters, 79

Joseph J. Peters, of Weston, the husband of the late Faith M. (Canty) Peters, passed away peacefully at home on June 22, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was 79.

Joe was born February 18, 1933, in Port Chester, NY, son of the late Frederick and Yvonne (Higgins) Peters and has been a resident of Weston for the past 37 years. Joe grew up in New Rochelle, NY but also spent a lot of time with his family in Maine during summer vacations. Joe helped his father build a family cottage on Lake Wassookeag near Dexter, Maine, the place of many happy family memories.

Joe graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maine and received his Master of Science and Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with degrees in Dairy and Food Industries and a specialization in Bacteriology. He was a lifelong member of Phi Kappa Phi. After graduating, he enjoyed a long career with Nestlé as a Food Engineer which included time working and living with his family in Lausanne, Switzerland. During this time he and his family traveled throughout Europe, visiting many countries, and enjoying the culture and art of each. During retirement, Joe worked as a private consultant for Nestlé and Carvel while obtaining his real estate license purely for fun. Joe enjoyed going to church, working in the garden, spending time with friends and, most of all, enjoying time with his family.

Joe is survived by daughters, Kimberly J. Wheeler of Ithaca, NY, and Andrea M. Hughes and fiancé James Cersosimo (& grand-puppy Tucker) of Astoria, NY, and sons Gregory E. Peters and wife Cindy of Kansas City, MO, and Douglas J. Peters and wife Donna of Richlandtown, PA, as well as eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Joseph was predeceased by his son, John F. Peters, his sister Yvonne M. Payetta, and his brother Frederick V. Peters, Jr.

Private interment was held June 26th at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield, CT. The Harding Funeral Home 210 Post Rd. E., Westport assisted the family with the arrangements.
