Visiting Nurses & Hospice elects Edgar, Hoffman to board

Weston residents Kenneth C. Edgar Jr. and Thomas G. Hoffman are among four new members recently elected to the board of directors of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County.

Mr. Edgar was an attorney with the law firm of Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett for 30 years. He was made a partner in 1980 and retired in 2006. While at the firm, he was the head of the executive compensation and employee benefits department, head of the pension and retirement committee, and co-head of the New York State Bar Association Employee Benefits Committee from 1988 to 1998. He was listed in Best Lawyers in America from 1987 to 2006, was a charter member of the American College of Employee Benefits, and was listed in Super Lawyers as one of the top 100 lawyers in New York City for 2006.

Mr. Edgar has served as co-chair of the Weston Town Charter Review Commission and chair of the Weston Community Service Coalition. He is a member of the Weston Planning and Zoning Commission, Weston Kiwanis, and the Weston Democratic Town Committee as well as a patron of the Metropolitan Opera.

Mr. Edgar graduated with a bachelor of arts from Haverford College, holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law and earned a LLM, master’s in taxation, from New York University School of Law.

Mr. Hoffman is the managing director and chief investment officer of Samoset Capital Group, LLC in Darien where he has worked since 2008. Before that, he was with Managers Investment Group where he started in 1994 as senior investment analyst, became director of research in 1998, and served as chief investment officer from 2005 until 2008. Previously, Mr. Hoffman was an investment analyst with Liberty Asset Management Company from 1990 until 1994. Before that he was a financial analyst with KPMG Peat Marwick and KOPS & Associates and a provisional district manager with First Investors Corporation.

Mr. Hoffman is a CFA charterholder and a member of CFAI and New York Society of Security Analysts. He served as chairman of trustees for Norfield Congregational Church and is on the investment committee.

Mr. Hoffman has a bachelor of arts in biology from Lehigh University and holds an MBA in finance and international business from New York University, Leonard N. Stern School of Business.
