Summer activities begin at Weston Public Library

June 16 was the last Sunday the Weston Public Library was open until September, and it also marked the beginning of summer activities at the library.

Summer reading

The children’s summer reading program and will be ongoing throughout the summer. This year, Children’s Librarian Miss Joy has selected the theme: Be A Smart Cookie — Read!


Miss Joy has also scheduled her much-anticipated crafts classes for the summer. Arts and Crafts for ages 4-6 will take place on Wednesdays, July 10, 17, 24, and 31 at 4, and Handicrafts for ages 7-9 will take place on Wednesdays, Aug. 7, 14, and 21 at 4. Sign-ups for both programs will be available in the Children’s Room.

Book club

A Nutmeg Book Club for the intermediate award winners will take place on July 9 and 23 and Aug. 6 and 20 at 4. Sign up for the group and check out the newest Nutmeg winners in the Children’s Room.

Lunch Bunch

Lunch Bunch for ages 2-7, featuring stories, songs, prizes and movies will take place on Tuesdays, July 9 and 23 and Aug. 6 and 20 at noon.

Bring a bag lunch, drink, and blanket. No registration required.

For adults

This year, the Weston Public Library will also offer an informal summer reading program for adults.  After reading a book, pick up a Rate Your Read form at the front desk. Let us know what you thought of the book and be entered in a weekly drawing for a gift card to a local business.

Adult summer reading will run July 1 through Aug. 9.

The library will host Noveltea book discussion groups on Wednesdays, July 10 and Aug. 14, at 10 a.m. If you would like to share what you’re reading with others in the community or looking for a good suggestion for your next read, join this informal group; open to readers of fiction and nonfiction. Tea and light refreshments will be available.

For those who will be traveling this summer, the library offers resources that are available 24/7 with a current library card wherever you have an Internet connection. Downloadable eBooks, audiobooks, movies, magazines and more are just a click away on the library’s homepage.
