The Alden Sherman Classic car and motorcycle show will not celebrate its second year until Sept. 22, but organizers have begun to solicit exhibitors.

Car and motorcycle owners are invited to apply to exhibit their vehicles by registering at or by mailing the requisite information and two photographs to the Weston Senior Activities Center, P.O. Box 1007, Weston CT 06883. Questions may be directed to Wendy Petty, [email protected] or 203-222-2608.

The show will take place at Weston High School on School Road. This community-driven event engages motoring enthusiasts of all ages to the benefit of the Weston Senior Activities Center. The rain date is Sept. 29.

The Alden Sherman Classic showcases significant and unusual automobiles and motorcycles spanning their more than 100-year history. Last year’s inaugural show had more than 200 cars and motorcycles on display, drawing 1,000 attendees and raising $26,000 to fund programs at the Senior Center. This year’s event will also feature car club parking corrals, a silent auction, varied lunch offerings, and the public’s opportunity to vote for their favorite car and motorcycle with People’s Choice ballots.

Alden Sherman is a Weston car collector who tools around the area’s winding roads in a Bugatti, Amilcar, Jaguar, or Ferrari. Mr. Alden is a participant in major regional shows and rallies. It is said that “his youthful enthusiasm belies his 90-plus years, 70 of which he has spent collecting, racing and fixing cars.”

The Weston Senior Activities Center serves the town’s vibrant senior community, which makes up approximately 20% of Weston’s population, as well as those from surrounding towns. The center offers a broad array of programs and services, including weekly lunches and entertainment activities; book groups and film showings; computer, art, exercise, cooking, flower-arranging, and safe-driving classes; tax and Medicare information sessions; and field trips.

The director, Ms. Petty, said, “The Weston Senior Activities Center is an important destination for many Weston and area seniors. The support we are so pleased to have received furthers our programs and provides for our continued growth. We thank all participants and the Friends of the Weston Senior Activities Center, which is co-host of the Alden Sherman Classic.”

Organizers of the Alden Sherman Classic say they are grateful to its sponsors who contribute to the success of the show. Additional sponsorship support is welcome by contacting Ms. Petty. Contributions to the Friends of the Weston Senior Activities Center are tax-deductible. For additional information and to sign up for a newsletter, visit the website,
