Y's Women host discussion about 'race in theater'

The next meeting of the Y’s Women will encompass what is happening today in race relations. On Monday, April 23, Eric Ting, associate artistic director at Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, will speak on “Color on Stage: A Frank Conversation About Race in Theatre Today.”

This will be an open conversation about the challenges facing both theater artists of color and the depiction of color on stage today. They’ll talk about some famous historic examples as well as more recent achievements and missteps in national and local theater; and if we’re lucky, there will be some hard questions about how the theater can be seen as a reflection of larger questions of race in America.

The meeting will be at the Unitarian Church starting with coffee and conversation at 11 a.m. A question and answer will follow the formal presentation.
