‘The Language of Children’ art show comes to library

weston-art-paint-brushWestport Community Nursery School is presenting an exhibition of student artwork, “The Language of Children,” at the Weston Library from April 8 through 13.

Community Nursery School is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy of early childhood education, which recognizes children as full of potential and competent, independent learners, rather than as empty vessels to be filled with facts by a teacher.

Also at the heart of this philosophy is the belief that children possess “100 languages,” meaning they express themselves and depict their understanding through symbolic language such as drawing, painting, sculpting, dramatic play, and writing. The exhibition displays several of these areas, including a printmaking unit.

A reception will be held on Wednesday, April 10, in the Community Room at the Weston library, 4–6 p.m.
