There’s a new face on Facebook — the Weston Police Department. The police joined the social media scene on Friday, March 8, by creating a Facebook page under the name “Weston Police Department,” and a Twitter account [email protected]
Weston Police Chief John Troxell, Sgt. Matt Brodacki, and Officer Joe Mogollon are administering the accounts.
With the department’s e-watch email service winding down, Chief Troxell said it made sense to switch to other social media services such as Facebook and Twitter.
In operation for just about two weeks, the Facebook page already has 87 “likes.” The page contains helpful information about weather and driving conditions as well as old photos of the department.
Chief Troxell said one of the purposes of the Facebook page and Twitter account is to provide information to the community on a timely basis, particularly during an event such as the recent lockdown at Weston High School. “Communication is very important, and in a situation like the lockdown we can filter and provide information in real time,” Chief Troxell said.
He encouraged the community to “like” the department’s Facebook page and follow the department on Twitter.
