On Friday evening, March 22, Treehouse Comedy Productions presents “Up Close and Comical,” a benefit show for the Fairfield Follies Foundation. The beautifully redesigned Patterson Club, at 1118 Cross Highway, Fairfield, provides the venue for the event.
A trio of comic pros will tickle the funnybones with “clean, television-acceptable” stand-up routines:
- Steve Shaffer, who has entertained on NBC’s The Tonight Show, Comedy Central, VH1, and HBO.
- Billy Winn, well-known radio personality and TV celebrity on VH1 and A&E channels.
- Melvin George, known as The King of Smooth, performs nationwide in concerts, TV and film.
The Fairfield Follies Foundation will benefit from the proceeds of this event. The foundation produces the annual Follies show, which has, for the last 14 years, attracted talented students from inner city and suburban high schools in the greater Bridgeport area who work together and present a Broadway musical.
The mission of Follies is to build bridges of communication and understanding between ethnically, racially and economically diverse communities while providing tuition-free professional theatrical training and experience to teenagers in the region.
More than 1,000 youngsters have participated in Follies.
The fund-raising evening begins with a social hour at 7, followed by comedy beginning at 8. Desserts and coffee will be served, and a cash bar will also be available. A silent auction will also be featured.
Tickets may be ordered for $35 each (plus a $1.50 credit card servicing fee) by calling 203-452-9375 or by emailing email@example.com. Tables may be reserved for groups. Although tickets may be purchased at the door, advance reservations ensure admission and preferred seating.
Auditions for this year’s Follies show, Follies 2013 — All Shook Up!, which features the ever-popular songs of Elvis Presley set to a story loosely based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, have begun. The show will take place at Fairfield Warde High School May 9-11.
