U.S. Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) issued the following statement in response to signals the automatic spending cuts mandated by the Budget Control Act, known as the “sequester,” will likely go into effect.
“I am appalled at the lack of progress on finding a replacement to the automatic spending cuts that go into effect today. It’s embarrassing but not surprising that there hasn’t been any movement toward a deal because House and Senate Republican leaders continue to hold any progress—on jobs, on deficit reduction, on civil rights—hostage. There hasn’t been one meaningful meeting this week between the leaders tasked with finding a solution. We voted for a plan that would bring both sides to the table. Everyone needs to come to that table.”
