Julie Leff’s art brightens Wilton library gallery

Sweet Peas by Julie Leff is one of the works in an exhibition featuring the artist’s work at the Wilton Public Library.

The Colors of Julie Leff, a new exhibition, opens with a reception at the Wilton Library on Friday, March 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Ms. Leff, who lives in Weston, will be featured in a one-woman show where her powerful use of color will be on display.

“Color excites me,” Ms. Leff said in a press release. “I love to create an interplay among colors and forms that is dynamic and balanced, challenging and pleasing to the eye. I specialize in floral and abstract oils because they allow me to explore my love of color. Each painting is the solution to a challenge of composing light, colors, negative and positive spaces, to create an intriguing and satisfying unity. I choose to paint with oils because of their vibrancy and the beautiful ways in which they can be blended.”

Ms. Leff, a graduate of Yale University, lived in New York, Los Angeles and London before settling in Weston in 1982 to raise her three daughters. She has studied art at Yale and the Silvermine Guild. She began painting professionally in 2001 and won her first art show, sponsored by the Weston Commission for the Arts, two years later. She has shown her work in numerous solo and group shows. Her artwork is held in private collections in the United States, Europe and Asia and is exhibited at Yale University’s Child Study Center.

More of her work may be viewed on her website, julieleff.com.

The art reception is open to the public. The majority of the more than 60 pieces will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library’s art collection fund.

The exhibition runs through April 3. Information: wiltonlibrary.org or 203-762-3950, ext. 213.
