After six lead changes in Tuesday’s game at Onion Barn, No Mercy!, sponsored by Camelot Real Estate, finally pulled out a 8-7 win over the Pink Ladies in its Weston Women’s Softball League opener last Tuesday, June 26.
No Mercy! finally managed to grab the lead after a strong sixth inning. No Mercy! scored on a two-run double by Tracey Haberman, scoring Kim Burke and Shannon Nordlinger.
The Pink Ladies scored one run in the sixth on an RBI single.
Becca Schwartz paced No Mercy! at the plate, going three for four and scoring two runs. She singled in the first and fourth innings and tripled in the sixth inning.
The bottom of the third featured the Pink Ladies take a 2-0 lead and scored four more runs in the fourth
No Mercy! did not give up the lead after the sixth inning. Additional runs came from a two-run double by Annemarie McDonald and an RBI single by Dena Tunney.
The pitchers had a tough when No Mercy! faced Peter’s Spirits. The two teams put up 27 runs combined in a 14-13 No Mercy! win.
Hitters on both sides were strong at the plate as the teams combined for 43 hits, including nine extra base hits.
No Mercy! scored four runs in the first inning to build an early lead and hit three home runs in the win, courtesy of Allie DiMauro in the first inning, McDonald in the third, and Schwartz later in the inning.
No Mercy! easily handled Peter’s Spirits pitching as six hitters combined for 18 hits, 13 RBI and 13 runs scored.
No Mercy! jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first. After Kristin Adams singled, No Mercy! kept the pressure on Peter’s Spirits pitching, as DiMauro hit a grand slam, scoring McDonald, Adams and Karen Chestler.
Peter’s Spirits answered No Mercy!’s top inning with four runs of its own in the first.
The game’s last lead went to No Mercy! thanks to a second inning rally that featured three runs cross the plate on a fielder’s choice and two bases loaded walks.
Peter’s Spirits posted one run in each of the second, fourth and fifth.
Schwartz’s solo blast helped No Mercy! score three runs in the third.
No Mercy! pushed across two runs in both the fourth and the fifth. In the earlier frame an RBI single by Adams plated Tammy Roberts.
No Mercy! added two more runs in the top of the fifth. A single by Chestler ignited the offense,, scoring Karen Kallins. That was followed up by Adams’ single, bringing home Schwartz.
After pushing across four runs in the bottom of the sixth, Peter’s Spirits faced just a 14-11 deficit. A three-run double and an RBI single by fueled Peter’s Spirits’ comeback.
Two runs in the bottom of the seventh helped Peter’s Spirits close its deficit to 14-13 before the threat ended.
