Baseball clinic draws 45

Play Ball for All had 45 youth attend a clinic it hosted on Sunday, June 11, at Morehouse Park.

Weston’s Play Ball for All hosted 45 youth ages eight to 13 on Sunday, June 11, for an afternoon of baseball fun and fundamentals clinic, followed by a barbeque at Morehouse Park.

This event was held in partnership with the Child Guidance Center of Mid-Fairfield County and the Factory Training Center of Norwalk. On hand for the clinic were Westonites Roy Berger, CEO of the Child Guidance Center, and staff, as well as Veronica Sandolo, owner of the Factory Training Center, along with her team.

The coaches on hand for the clinic were Play Ball For All founder Bob Barasch, coaches Scott Miller, Bill McCarthy, Owen McCarthy and Weston peer mentors Luke Dionian, Evan Cavicchia, Luke Barasch, Aidan McCarthy, Mathew Schredder, David Miller, Will Berger, Henry Morest and Sean Creame.

“Our coaches and youth mentors wanted to bring these young kids to Weston and show them a positive and fun day of baseball and community spirit,” said Bob Barasch.

Play Ball for All’s mission is to bring the game of baseball to underserved youth in the surrounding communities. It is run by local volunteer coaches and assisted by young Weston athletes acting as peer mentors at these clinics. The program hopes to spur organic growth of local community baseball one player at a time. The goals are to offer mentor and leadership opportunities to our young Weston players, encourage volunteerism at early ages and bring awareness to local youth causes.

Located in Norwalk, the Child Guidance Center provides services in both English and Spanish that are available to all families, regardless of their ability to pay.
