A busy day was also a victorious one overall for the Weston High wrestling team at the Canton Duals.
The Trojans faced three different opponents on Saturday, Jan. 12. It turned out to be worth the trip as they outscored Seymour 54-21, beat Gilbert 45-33 and defeated the hosts 46-36.
Many Weston wrestlers went home with a number of wins. Andrew Leonard picked up two at 106 pounds, winning by forfeit over Seymour and Canton but getting pinned by Gilbert’s Moonis Ansari in 31 seconds.
Rich Prackup swept the competition in the 113-pound class, pinning Seymour’s Nick Stafferi in 3:30, getting a win by forfeit over Gilbert, and pinning Canton’s Julian Adams in 3:23.
Getting wins in two different weight groups, Tim Levene pinned Seymour’s Elena Bertola in 1:19 at 120 pounds. He moved up to 126 and did likewise to Gilbert’s Tyler Zani in 2:53 and got the win by forfeit over Canton.
Jackson Siff was pinned in 23 seconds by Seymour’s Xavier Vidal but also got two wins by forfeit over Gilbert and Canton.
Mike Levene got a win by forfeit over Gilbert at 132 pounds and pinned Canton’s Joe Jaslyn in 5:29 despite getting pinned in 24 seconds by Seymour’s Dane Christensen. Getting a sweep at 138, Remy Babson-Smith pinned Seymour’s Ray Harding in 1:01 and got forfeits over Gilbert and Canton.
Three wins went to Blake Wertlieb at 195 pounds, including forfeits over Seymour and Gilbert. He pinned Canton’s Devon Glasson in 28 seconds.
The 285-pound division featured Travis Delaney pinning Seymour’s Chris Ernst in 3:12 and getting the forfeit against Gilbert. He lost by pin to Canton’s Quentin Permenter in 2:48.
Also getting wins in their respective weight classes were Andrew Leonard (106) Josh Lachs (170), Ryan O’Connell (182) and Alex Ishin (220).
Weston, now 5-5, takes part in the New Milford tournament on Saturday and is as Stratford on Tuesday.
