The League of Women Voters of Weston announces its 22nd mid-winter Speak Up event, taking place on Saturday, Feb. 9, in the Community Room of the Weston Public Library from 10:30 to noon.
The holidays are over, a new legislative session has opened and the local budget process begins under new deadlines and town charter requirements. The public is invited to ask elected and appointed officials specific questions.
The Speak Up forum is also meant to provide a dialogue between townspeople and their elected and appointed officials from local and state offices, and perhaps through them, to reach the ear of the federal government.
Invitations to Speak Up will be going out soon to members of most of Weston’s boards and commissions, as well as to the town’s state senators and representatives.
Barbara Rowland, one of Speak Up’s oganizers, said, “Citizen participation in government is vital to keep it honest and effective. Please come and bring your questions and concerns. Bring, as well, a friend or neighbor.”
Light refreshments will be served.
