With multiple point scorers in every event the Weston High boys swim team put itself in good shape in its meet against New Fairfield.
The Trojans captured just four first places last Thursday, Jan. 3, but had quite a few top-five finishers across the board they kept a few steps ahead of the competition for a 96-89 win at home.
One of Weston’s wins was at the beginning in the 200 medley relay. Jordan Berger, Clayton Morikawa, Marty Imber and Hugo Sykes led the way in one minute 47.31 seconds. The Trojans also got points from Lydia Sykes, Eli Carter, Vincent Walters and Adam Winikoff in third in 2:06.37.
The Rebels were fastest in the next two events, the 200 free and the 200 individual medley. But the Trojans had several scores between the two of them. Gabe Imber finished second in the former in 1:57.22 and Asher Greenberg followed in fourth. For the latter, Morikawa was second (2:14.44) with Carter in third (2:24) and Garrick Tsui in fourth a second later.
Weston did have the speed in the 50 free. Besides the win, it captured three of the top four places.
Hugo Sykes led the way in 22.82 with Berger in second in 23.25. Fourth went to Marty Imber in 25.12.
The diving event featured Misha Moffly taking second and Dean Rapp finishing third as the Trojans kept pace in the meet.
The Trojans’ best event was the 100 butterfly, which featured a one-two-three finish. Marty Imber was the winner in 1:02, followed by David Fleming 0.41 second later. Dan Solinsky was fourth in 1:04.3.
Adam Winikoff placed second in the 100 free in 54.97. He was one of three Weston scorers to break the one-minute mark as Morikawa was third in 55.96 and Jackson Marvin was fifth in 57.47.
Another second place came in the 500 free with Gabe Imber going the distance in 5:26.90. Greenberg was fourth in 5:46.69.
The final first place for Weston was in the 200 free. Morikawa, Berger, Winikoff and Marty Imber combined for a 1:38.09.
Although New Fairfield was first in the final three events the Trojans had enough of scorers to finish with the win in the meet. Both Sykes scored in the 100 backstroke with Hugo taking second in 59.66 and Lydia in third in 1:07.
Carter earned Weston’s points in the 100 backstroke with a second-place time of 1:11.78 and in the 400 free relay Gabe Imber, Winikoff, Hugo Sykes and Berger combined for second as well in 3:36.93.
Weston, now 1-1 overall, hosts New Milford on Friday and is at Brookfield on Tuesday. Both meets start a t 4 p.m.
