Gun ordinance is on selectmen’s agenda tonight

The Weston Board of Selectmen is scheduled to hold its first meeting of 2013 tonight, Thursday, Jan. 3. Coverage of this meeting will be in next week’s Jan. 10 edition of The Weston Forum.

On the agenda is further discussion and a possible decision regarding assault weapons in town. At the board’s last meeting, it was announced that Selectman Dennis Tracey would be working on researching and crafting a new ordinance pertaining to assault weapons in light of the recent school shooting in Newtown. The selectmen agreed at that time that addressing the issue on the local level is appropriate and something people want to see done.

Also on the agenda for Thursday’s meeting is a presentation from two Weston youth regarding a proposal to eliminate plastic bags in town.

The selectmen are also set to discuss a cooperative purchasing contract, and they plan to make several reappointments to town commissions and committees. Also on the agenda is approval of nearly $10,500 in property tax refunds.

Rick Darling, finance director, is scheduled to talk about needed year-end budget transfers.

The Board of Selectmen’s meeting may be seen on the town website, Click on Meetings and Meeting Videos.
