The Metropolitan Transit Authority’s recent decision to raise Metro-North fares will not affect Connecticut commuters. Connecticut DOT sets commuter rail fares here.
“While there will be an increase of 5.04% on Jan. 1, 2013, for Connecticut fares, that is nowhere near the 9% to 16% fare hike being planned by the MTA for Metro-North riders in New York state,” said Jim Cameron, chairman of the CT Metro-North Rail Commuter Council.
As a result of the MTA’s action, the price of a subway ride will go up to $2.50 beginning March 1. Weekly and monthly Metro Card will also go up.
Riders on the commuter rails will see increases, and tolls on the MTA’s bridge and tunnel crossings will rise 8% to 9%.
