The League of Women Voters of Weston is hosting a candidate debate for the open seat in the 135th District – Weston, Easton and Redding – on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 10:30 to noon in the Meeting Room at Weston Town Hall.

The league is providing coffee, tea and donut holes. The debate will be videotaped for replay on Town TV Channel 79.

League Moderator Jean Rabinow, from the LWVCT Office, will be asking the questions, submitted to screeners (Weston League members, one “D” and one “R”) by those in attendance or from questions e-mailed in advance to the League website lwvweston.org.

The candidates debating are Republican Adam Dunsby who is cross endorsed by the Independent party and Bonnie Troy of the Green Party, who is crossed endorsed by the Democrats.

A couple of subject areas for questions and debate include the state’s recovery from the “Great Recession” of 2008, and education funding policies in light of the C.C.J.E.F. v. Rell lawsuit.

The league asks all voters to attend the debate to learn more about those who seek to represent the town, Bring questions on 3 x 5 cards, or submit a question at the debate. The league’s motto is, “Democracy Is Not a Spectator Sport.”
