The Weston Police Department has been given the go-ahead to purchase a new Tahoe.
On June 7, the Board of Selectmen approved an appropriation of $41,402.21 for purchase of the vehicle. A week later, the finance board did the same.
The money is to come from the Vehicle Sinking Fund, established last year to try to ease the budget impact new vehicle purchases have and as a way to extend the life of some town cars and trucks, said First Selectman Gayle Weinstein.
“We are hoping to unlink purchasing from the budgeting of vehicles,” she said.
The town established the fund with $50,000 last year. The 2012-13 budget has earmarked $342,000 for it.
The Tahoe is the first vehicle to be purchased using money from the sinking fund.
