Members of the Kiwanis Club of Weston gathered at Lachat Town Farm on Saturday, May 14, to build nine white cedar picnic tables for distribution around the Weston community.
The picnic table project, developed by Kiwanian Steve Thomas, came as a result of his visit to Bisceglie-Scribner Park.
Thomas noticed the poor condition of the picnic tables by the pond, where so many families swim in the summer, and brought the idea for new picnic tables to the Kiwanis Board and Foundation.
The club agreed to purchase and build nine new picnic tables.
Thomas coordinated a build date for volunteers and offered two tables to Lachat in exchange for using its maintenance garage for the project.
Five tables were donated to the town for use at Bisceglie-Scribner Park and Morehouse Farm Park. The two remaining tables were given to the Weston Historical Society.
“Weston deserves to be proud of its outstanding volunteer spirit,” said First Selectman Nina Daniel. “Weston is fortunate that so many members of the community care about and strive to improve the quality of life for others.”
The Kiwanis Club of Weston sponsors a variety of programs and events to raise money for local organizations.
The club’s membership is open to all men and women residing or working in the area. For more information, visit westonkiwanis.org.
