Coal mining documentary at Weston library Thursday

The Weston Sustainability Committee and the Friends of the Weston Library present a free screening of The Last Mountain, a documentary over the battle being fought between the coal industry and health and environmental advocates, and how America is trying to balance its energy needs with environmental concerns. The film is being shown Thursday, Nov. 15, 7 p.m., at the Weston Public Library, Norfield Road.

In Coal River Valley, W.Va., a small but passionate group of ordinary citizens are trying to stop Big Coal corporations, like Massey Energy, from continuing the devastating practice of Mountain Top Removal. The Last Mountain tells the personal story of the people fighting for what they believe in.

The film by Bill Haney was a Sundance Film Festival Special Selection in 2011 and a New York Times Critic’s Pick.
