Weston’s first half-marathon was delayed as recovery efforts from Superstorm Sandy continued in town last weekend, but it’s on for this Sunday, Nov. 11. Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Weston, the Weston Reservoir Run will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Weston High School football field, after opening ceremonies beginning at 8:15.
Online registration is open until 9 p.m tonight, Thursday, Nov. 8. Registrations are being accepted from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Norfield Church’s Parish Hall, and on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. before the race at the high school “old gym.” For further details, go to thereservoirrun.com.
All runners will be chip timed. Those who finish within two hours and 15 minutes will have a chance for a drawing for four round trip tickets on JetBlue Airways (two tickets to a male and two tickets to a female winner).
Long sleeve dri-fit shirts and a swag bag with goodies from sponsors will be given to all pre-registrants and, as long as they last, will be given to Saturday and Sunday registrants as well.
All finishers will receive a custom designed medal and ribbon. At the end of the race, food and liquids will be provided to all runners in the high school cafeteria.
Runners’ gift bags and timing bibs may be picked up a day in advance at the Norfield Church Parish Hall, Saturday, Nov. 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., or on the day of the race from 7 to 8:15 a.m. in the Weston High School old gym.
A Kids’ Fun Run will take place on the high school track as soon as the runners are all out running — starting at about 8:45 a.m. Kids may run in the eight and under or 9-11 category. There is no fee and all participants receive ribbons.
The Reservoir Run represents a major community-wide effort on the part of many generous sponsors and a host of volunteers helping to make it a success.
In addition to more than 60 Kiwanians, noteworthy among them are the town of Weston, the Weston public schools, Weston police, the Weston PBA, the Volunteer Fire Department, Weston EMS, Norfield Grange, the Key Club, the Boy Scouts, and the girls’ high school track team, who will organize a Fun Run for the kids.
If you have any questions as to how to participate or to help, email Phyllis or Don Gary, the co-chairmen of the run, at email@example.com.
