The League of Women Voters invites the public to attend a “Town Affairs Update” on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 10:30 a.m. in the Weston Town Hall Meeting Room, and then to join the League for lunch.
For those who are not already league members, there will be a chance to join. The league includes men as well as women.
The panel includes First Selectman Gayle Weinstein, Superintendent of Schools Colleen Palmer, Chairman of the Board of Finance Gerald Sargent III, former co-chaiman of the Charter Revision Commission Ken Edgar, and Carol Baldwin, member of the Lachat Oversight Committee.
Joy Kony Peshkin will be the league moderator at this event. Ms. Peshkin has been a member of the Weston league for years. Her experience as an attorney (with licences to practice in all courts — up to and including the U.S. Supreme Court) as well being a former teacher, administrator and Weston Board of Education officer, gives her a unique understanding of some of the issues facing the community today.
Each presenter has been given five to seven minutes to outline their activities, most of which will have some impact on the FY2013-14 town budget, and after these opening remarks are completed, the floor will be open to questions.
Questions may include, but are not limited to, ones on the new charter (if it passes Nov. 6) and how it affects the budget process and the role of the finance board, what is happening with the Lachat property, how changing school enrollment may affect use of town buildings, and expected tax increases.
