Boys lacrosse: Weston wins first round

The Weston High boys lacrosse team defeated Tolland 18-4 in the first round of the state Class S tournament on Wednesday.

Weston, the fourth seed, took a 5-1 lead in the first quarter and increased it to 11-3 at halftime. Tolland, the 13th seed, scored its last goal in the third quarter.

 

Sean Fumai led Weston with four goals and had one assist. Richie Miller and Lyle Mitchell each scored three with one and five assists respectively.

Jesse Jaico scored two, as did Zach Kraft. Jack Scheufele (two assists), Matt Brooks (one assist) and Peter Robbins netted one apiece.

Grant Limone made six saves in goal for Weston, which hosts fifth-seeded Stonington on Friday at 3 p.m.
