Phil Schaefer of Weston will be appearing in The Ridgefield Theater Barn’s presention of Nuts, a play by Tom Topor, directed by Sherry Asch and produced by Paulette Layton.
Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8, starting Friday, June 1, and continuing through Saturday, June 23, with Sunday matinees at 5 on June 10 and June 17. The production is Mr. Schaefer’s Theater Barn debut.
Set in a courtroom and in New York’s Bellevue Hospital, the story follows a high-priced call girl incarcerated on a charge for killing a violent “john.” A court appointed psychiatrist and an aggressive prosecutor say Claudia Faith Draper is unfit to stand trial for manslaughter.
As testimony from experts, physicians and her parents unfolds, Claudia’s psyche and childhood are dissected, and she must prove that she isn’t “nuts,” but legally sane to stand trial.
The playwright used his years of experience as a journalist covering NewYork City police stations, courtrooms, and psychiatric hospital wards to create the play. The plot is based on a true incident reported in the 1970s.
Tickets are $24 for adults and $20 for students and seniors. Seating is cabaret style and the audience is invited to bring food and beverage to enjoy before the performance and during intermission. Doors open one hour prior to curtain.
The Ridgefield Theater Barn is at 37 Halpin Lane in Ridgefield. For reservations visit ridgefieldtheaterbarn.org or call 203-431-9850.
