2:30 p.m. — School Road is still closed at the intersection of Weston Road. All vehicular traffic is still being directed through the Lords Highway entrance to the campus, Schools Superintendent Colleen Palmer said to parents in an email.

The schools are asking any parent/guardian picking up students from Hurlbutt or the intermediate school to wait until at least 3:30 p.m. today to access School Road to allow time for buses to clear.

“We anticipate the volume of traffic with only one egress may delay the exit of school buses from campus today. If that delay is more than 10 minutes, we will notify families. Again, we thank you for your cooperation and your patience with this transportation challenge today,” Palmer said.

8:20 a.m. — Weston schools are opening this morning with a two-hour delay, but only the Lord’s Highway end of campus will be open for entrance/exit of vehicles.

The intersection at Weston Road and School Road will be closed until further notice due to a downed tree and power lines, according to Weston police.

Schools Superintendent Colleen Palmer has sent an email to parents asking them to put their students on school buses this morning and not drive them them to campus, if at all possible.

Police say Eversource is on the scene making repairs. Traffic is being diverted and detoured around and away from the area, and they advise taking alternate routes in order to avoid travel delays.

Palmer has issued special instructions for Weston Intermediate School and Hurlbutt Elementary School parents who must drive their students to school. “We cannot accept your traffic on campus until 10:45 a.m. The front drop-off of HES will be shut down this morning, and all vehicles for HES will drop off students in the back bus loop. We need to have all bus traffic drop off students and exit campus before we can accept parent vehicles today for WIS and HES,” she said.

Students who are dropped off at WIS and HES will be excused for late arrival to school.

She expects both entrances to School Road will be open for the dismissal of school, and said she will send an updated notice to parents today at 1:30 p.m. apprising of progress and any possible adjustments that could be required for dismissal today.

“We thank you for your patience with this situation and appreciate your use of our school buses this morning for transporting your students to school,” she said.
