The Weston Trojans eighth grade youth football team beat Wilton 20- 7 on Sunday and improves its record to 7-0 in its inaugural season of Weston Trojan Youth Football and Cheer in the Fairfield County Football League.
Last Sunday’s game was very physical, and Wilton battled very hard to score its only touch down near the end of the fourth quarter. Weston’s scoring came in the second quarter, beginning with an 80-yard run by Jason Lawrence, followed by a two-point field goal. Alex Fruhbeis’s two long touchdown runs extended the lead to 20-0 at half time.
The offensive line, led by the blocking of John Murphy, Nate Jacobson, Peter Jegen, Robbie Waltzman, Michael Otworth, Brandon Postlethwaite, Jackson Quist and Stephen Tyler helped make scoring. Both of Weston’s quarterbacks, Dom DeCaro and Alex Fruhbeis, executed the offensive with precision to capitalize on the offensive line coverage.
The defense had a very strong game, led by the team captain Zach Spencer. Peter Achar, Jackson Aguas, Konrad Freitag,Gavin Wrynn, Ben Haut, Elijah Hutchinson, Brendan Kirk , Nicholas Lange, Bobby Lummis, Owen McCarthy, Matthew Oakes, and Sal Vento held Wilton scoreless until three minutes remained.
Weston’s last regular season of the game before playoffs is this Sunday, Oct. 21, at 11:30 a.m. at the Weston High stadium field versus a 6-1 New Canaan team. Sunday’s game will determine playoff seeding and the junior Lady Trojan gold cheer team is looking forward to leading a large Weston crowd to support the home team.
