Westonites are members of youth orchestra

Several students from Weston are members of the Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra (WCYO) this season.

They include Grayson Kane, cello; Natalie Marks, violin; Katherine Mitchell, cello; Julia Weisman, violin; Cameron Edgar, cello; and Natalie Schanzer, trumpet.

This year, Justin Elkins is the new WCYO String Ensemble conductor. Mr. Elkins joins the WCYO as a member of an artistic staff which also includes Petko Dimitrov, music director and symphony orchestra conductor, and Albert Montecalvo, wind ensemble conductor.

The first WCYO concert of the 2012-13 season will take place on Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. at the East Ridge Middle School auditorium in Ridgefield, and will feature the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and String Ensemble performing selections by Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Borodin, Dvorak, Giacchino and more.

This concert will be followed by a WCYO performance as guest artists in Video Games Live at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m.

The WCYO will hold two additional concerts during the season on March 3, 2013, and May 19, 2013, and the annual Garden Party concert and fund-raiser on June 9, 2013.

For more information on concerts, events and auditioning for the ensembles, visit wctyo.org, email [email protected], or call 203-894-8786.

Primary auditions for WCYO ensembles take place in June, but select auditions are held throughout the season.
