Norfield Congregational Church’s second annual Blessing of the Animals service is this Saturday, Oct. 6, at 11:30 a.m. in the Memorial Garden at the church on Norfield Road.
The Rev. Dr. Bernard R. Wilson will lead participants in prayers, readings and songs that celebrate the role that animals play: the joy and comfort of pets, the usefulness of farm animals, the beauty of the wild animals.
This kind of service is traditionally held in early October in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi, who is remembered for his love and appreciation for the part that all the animals play in God’s creation (St. Francis’ feast day is observed on Oct. 4).
All are invited to bring their animals to receive a special blessing. Special stuffed animals are also welcome.
After the service there will be refreshments and animal face painting for the kids by Ginny Awn.
The service will take place outdoors rain or shine, so make sure pets are under control and safe. Do not bring animals unless they have had all their vaccinations.
