David Bedell announced Tuesday, Aug. 28, that members of the Fairfield County Green Party nominated candidates for state and local office on Monday, Aug. 27. Mr. Bedell is secretary of the Fairfield County Green Party.
In Weston, Gabriel Rossi of Easton will appear on the ballot for state representative, District 135, which includes Easton, Weston, and part of Redding.
Jane Weston of Stamford will be a candidate for registrar of voters in Weston. Mr. Bedell explained that a candidate does not have to live in town to run as a registrar, only to serve as registrar. “If she wins, she will move to Weston,” he said.
The Green Party is a minor political party recognized by the state of Connecticut. It is based on principles of environmentalism, grassroots democracy, and economic and social justice.
Mr. Rossi has a background in K-12 public education and now works as a curriculum designer and consultant for the Yale School of Management.
Ms. Weston is retired from a career in the publishing industry and is a former co-chairman of the Connecticut Green Party.

Mr. Bedell said it is still unknown whether Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein or U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Russell will appear on the ballot in Connecticut. Petitions were submitted up until the deadline of Aug. 8, but the Secretary of the State’s office has not yet announced the results of its signature count.
