A Weston artist was chosen to participate in the Westport Arts Center’s 2012 Juried Members Exhibition, SOLOS, sponsored by Sun Hill Foundation, and he will take part in a meet-the-artist lunch May 16.
This year, the artwork includes painting, sculpture, photographs, and prints. The exhibition will be on view from through Sunday, June 3.
“The SOLOS exhibition, which celebrates its seventh year this spring, has become a tradition at the Westport Arts Center,” said WAC’s Director of Visual Arts, Helen Klisser During. “SOLOS highlights the talent, diversity, and quality that exists within our artist membership, and continually expands our membership past the Connecticut region to New York and beyond.”
This year’s SOLOS exhibition was juried by Ian Berry, Associate Director and The Susan Rabinowitz Malloy ’45 Curator of The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College.
From more than 100 applicants, eight artists were selected to participate. They include Donald Leeds of Weston, June Ahrens of New Canaan, Charles Geiger of Poughkeepsie, Ellen Hackl Fagan of New York City, Arcady Kotler of Long Island City, Timothy Pyle of Fairfield, and Carolyn Rie and Kraemer Sims Becker of Westport.
Mr. Leeds uses photographic imagery as a catalyst for digital explorations of visual phenomena. From a field of spring green grass to a formal portrait of astronaut John Glenn, Mr. Leeds takes these images apart and re-presents them as compositions that focus us on our own looking.
The Weston artist will participate in a Lunchtime Talk With the Artists on Wednesday, May 16, from 12:30 to 1:30 at the gallery, 51 Riverside Avenue, Westport.
Gallery hours are Monday-Thursday, 10-4, Friday, 10-2, and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4, at For more information, contact Westport Arts Center at 203-222-7070, westportartscenter.org.
