Girls golf: FCIAC opponents are tough

Its best round of the season to date still put the Weston High girls golf team a few strokes behind the competition when it visited Ridgefield last week.

The Trojans cut a few strokes off their score at the Ridgefield Golf Course on Tuesday, May 1. With a 209 they were indeed a threat but the host Tigers were just out of reach with a 202.

Weston had one golfer break 50 for nine holes. Carlye Rosen led the way for her team with a 49.

Both Joy Essaghof and Claire Cook had identical rounds of 52. Also scoring for Weston, Hannah Smith was a few strokes later with a 56.

A day later the Trojans were back on the course against another Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) opponent when they visited Greenwich. The Cardinals showed why they are currently undefeated, having all of their golfers shoot under 50 as they prevailed 187-217.

All of Weston’s golfers shot in the 50s. Essaghof had her team’s best round with a 50 on the nose.

Rosen was next with a 55. Smith and Kendra Savage each finished with a 56.

Weston, now 1-4-1 overall, takes on Masuk today (Thursday) at Whitney Farms Golf Course at 3:15 p.m., is at Smith Richardson Golf Course on Tuesday to play Fairfield Ludlowe at 3, and goes to Oronoque Country Club to play Bunnell on Wednesday at 3:30.
