The Weston Board of Selectmen unanimously approved the purchase of two new vehicles for the Parks and Recreation Department at its Aug. 2 meeting.
The board approved access to the town’s vehicle sinking fund for the purchase of a Ford F250HD super duty pick-up truck ($24,890) and for a Kubota tractor with a front loader and aerator and rake accessories ($22,320).
The accessories for the tractor were approved pending a follow-up conversation with the schools. “We need to make sure we need these and we have the personnel who can effectively operate them,” First Selectman Gayle Weinstein said.
The tractor, rake and aerator will be used to maintain all fields and town property, including playing fields at Bisceglie-Scribner Park and Morehouse Farm Park. It will allow parks and recreation staff to move sand, clay and rocks
“We absolutely need the tractor,” Ms. Weinstein said.
There was some debate at the selectmen’s meeting as to whether the department needed the heavy duty pick-up truck or whether a light duty one would suffice.
The selectmen ultimately agreed to purchase the heavier duty truck that a snow plow can be attached to if necessary.
