Pitcher Kristin Adams allowed 28 hits, but managed to get enough outs to help No Mercy! (sponsored by Camelot Real Estate) defeat the Weed Wackers 11-8 in seven innings on Thursday, Aug. 2, at North House Field in Weston women’s softball action.
The game was back-and-forth heading into the fourth, with four lead changes. No Mercy! hammered the Weed Wackers’ pitching as six hitters had a field day, combining for 15 hits, 10 RBI and eight runs scored.
In the top of the second, Weed Wackers grabbed an early 1-0 lead. No Mercy! went up for good in the fourth, scoring four runs on two doubles.
The Weed Wackers scored two runs in the top of the fifth to cut its deficit to two. No Mercy! piled on six in the bottom of the sixth. A double by Allie DiMauro ignited the offense, bringing home Adams and Karen Chestler. That was followed up by Becca Schwartz’s double, scoring Dena Tunney.
Five runs in the top of the seventh helped Weed Wackers close its deficit to 11-8, and ending the game with a No Mercy! victory.
It was another offensive display when No Mercy! took on Peter’s Spirits at Onion Barn on July 31. When the dust cleared the former outlasted its opponent 13-11.
The teams combined for 50 hits, including 12 extra base hits.
No Mercy! hit three home runs in the win, including those by DiMauro in the first inning, Schwartz in the second, and Dionne Dunham in the fifth.
DiMauro racked up six RBIs on four hits for No Mercy!, including a homer, two doubles and a single.
No Mercy! hammered Peter’s Spirits pitching as eight hitters had a field day, combining for 23 hits, 13 RBI and 13 runs scored.
No Mercy! scored four runs and added another six in the second, starting when Teal Williams singled, bringing home Michelle Smith and Karen Chestler. That was followed up by DiMauro’s single, bringing home Adams.
After pushing across one run in the bottom of the second, Peter’s Spirits faced a 10-1 deficit. Val Saltzman stole home to put her team on the scoreboard.
Peter’s Spirits scored another the same way in the third when Tina Gaines stole home. No Mercy! scored in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth. In the fourth, No Mercy! scored on an RBI double by DiMauro, plating Adams.
Peter’s Spirits scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut its deficit to seven. A two-run double by Julie Baisley furthered Peter’s Spirits’ attempted comeback before the game ended.
No Mercy! heads into the playoffs this week in first place with a regular-season record of 6-4. It won no games in its first season in 2010 and only two (including a forfeit) last year.
