Town seeks ‘ambassadors’ to promote Solarize Weston program

FI-hot-sunWeston has been chosen to participate in the state-sponsored Solarize Connecticut program that allows residents to purchase solar panels at a “group rate.” The town is looking for some residents who want to help promote the program.

Through the program, administered by the Clean Energy Finance Investment Authority (CEFIA) and SmartPower, installations of solar panels are done through a pre-selected, fully vetted vendor who offers residents a significant group discount rate. With a tiered pricing structure, the more people who sign up for the program the greater the savings for every homeowner who participates.

Through a competitive bidding process, the town and CEFIA have chosen Renewable Resources to install solar panels for the Solarize Weston program. First Selectman Gayle Weinstein said the company had excellent references from towns it has worked with already, including Greenwich and Stamford.

A variety of flexible financing options are offered by CEFIA through the installer — including leasing and loan options that require no money down — to make solar more affordable than ever. Most financing options allow homeowners to immediately lower their monthly energy bills.

Ms. Weinstein said that while residents are not required to use the pre-selected installer or to participate in Solarize Weston if they want to get solar panels, the program allows residents to save money and time by providing a pre-approved, pre-vetted vendor who is guaranteeing the best deal and quality service.

weston-sunThe town is looking for Westonites who already have solar panels or experience with solar energy to be “solar ambassadors” for the Solarize Weston program. Ambassadors will simply help spread the word and help promote the program through outreach events.

A meeting for potential solar ambassadors is set for Tuesday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room at town hall.

In addition, a Solarize Weston launch workshop for homeowners interesting in learning more about solar and the program is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Weston Public Library.

To participate in pricing discounts, residents must sign their contracts for installation by Sept. 30 of this year.
