The Weston Police Department has identified the source of offensive and threatening comments aimed at middle school students on Instagram.

Weston police have identified the person who posted on Instagram offensive and threatening comments aimed at Weston Middle School students.

The person was a juvenile, and no charges are being filed, according to police.

“The source of the messages was identified and the case closed without enforcement action,” said Weston Police Detective Carl Filsinger in a press release issued today, March 17.

Det. Filsinger said he worked closely with the schools and parents on the case. Although the messages were deemed “alarming in nature,” he said it was established through the investigation that “no real or credible threat” ever existed to any person or the school district.

“The nature of this case is about making a mistake on the social media and not realizing the kind of effect it has on others,” Det. Filsinger stated in the press release.

The matter came to light two weeks ago when someone anonymously posted offensive messages, including a racial epithet, next to pictures of middle school students on Instagram.
