Doris Barker Shiller, a Westporter who was active in health district services and civic affairs, died on Sunday, July 22, after a brief illness. She was 79.
Ms. Shiller was in the League of Women Voters, and helped establish Project Concern, a program that bused 25 Bridgeport students into the Westport schools.
She was vice president of the Child Care Council of the Westport Weston Health District and Parent Child Center, a member of the Advisory Board of the Westport Weston Visiting Homemakers Service, and other civic organizations.
She is survived by daughter Bethanne McCarthy and husband Steven of Savannah, Ga., son Stephen Shiller and wife Emily of Ridgefield, and son Andrew David Shiller of Monsey, N.Y.; her sister Rosalind Klem and her husband Bernard Klem; sister Cheryl Barker; and grandchildren Shane, Jessica, Matthew and Samantha.
Ms. Schiller was born in Brooklyn and raised in Belle Harbor, N.Y. and graduated from Barnard College and Yale Law School. She was the first woman partner at Marsh, Day, & Calhoun in Bridgeport. and practiced at Berkowitz, Balbirer, Weisman and Lubell, P.C. She was on the board of the Democratic Women of Westport servng as treasurer. Burial was in Queens, N.Y.
