The grant was awarded by P.E.O., the Philanthropic Education Organization, in which women help with the advancement of other women through scholarships, grants, awards and loans.
Ms. Conto will graduate in August and, after passing her certification exam, will become a registered nurse.
P.E.O. was founded in 1869 in Iowa and has more than a quarter of a million members in the United States and Canada. Nearly 88,000 women have benefited from P.E.O. grants. Women in local chapters of P.E.O. raise money to support eligible recipients. Shirley Schneider is the president of the Weston P.E.O. chapter.
