Public is invited to butterfly nature walk in Redding

The Norwalk River Watershed Association will sponsor a walk to be led by lepidopterist Victor DeMasi on Saturday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. in Redding. The public is invited to participate in this free event.

Mr. DeMasi, research affiliate for the Peabody Museum in New Haven and Norwalk River Watershed Association advisory board member, has been studying butterflies and moths in an area along the Norwalk River since 1977. He will introduce area butterflies and moths, discuss their food and habitats and show his collection.

Participants will gather at Simpaug Turnpike, Redding, just east of Route 7, Ridgefield, for the event that runs from 10 to noon. The rain date is Aug. 5. The hike is described as an easy walk and all ages are welcome. Participants are advised to wear long pants, sturdy shoes and tick repellant. To reserve a spot, contact Mr. DeMasi at 203-938-9016 or at [email protected]
