Hot and stormy in Weston today; town opens cooling center

heatWThe National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the area today. Temperatures are predicted to be in the 90s and there is a 60% chance of thunderstorms, some of which may bring small hail, heavy rain, lightning, and gusty wind.

The Weston Public Library, which is air conditioned, will be open until 8 p.m. to serve as a cooling center for those who need it, said First Selectman Gayle Weinstein. She cautioned people to use common sense, take precautions to keep cool like limiting outdoor activities, and not to drive in severe weather if possible.

If power is lost, the library is not on a generator. However, in the case of woirdespread outages, the town hall/library complex is usually among the first areas in town to have power restored.

Thursday is expected to be slightly cooler, partly sunny with temperatures in the high 80s.
