The Weston residents who turned out for the April 2013 town budget meetings overwhelmingly supported the proposed Board of Education budget, which for the fifth straight year barely budged from the prior year. Yet the Board of Finance rejected the public’s expressed wishes and decided to lower it so that it was reduced to a figure smaller than the prior year’s. This was accompanied by expressions of the need to instill further cuts going forward based, in part, on a prediction of continued declining enrollment, which, at least for this year, has proven unfounded.
Melissa Koller, Dick Bochinski and Allan Grauberd, decided to run as the Team for Responsible Finance to achieve the goal of making the Board of Finance more responsive to residents’ priorities: minimizing spending without sacrificing what is necessary to maintain Weston’s quality of life or quality of education as well as planning for further town space needs. That’s not a Democratic or Republican philosophy. It’s just smart governing. Only by electing all three members of our team will a Board of Finance emerge aligned with this philosophy.
We’re asking you, no matter what your party affiliation, to vote for all three of us: Melissa, Dick, and Allan for Board of Finance. We believe that a Board of Finance that supports the wishes of our town residents is a bipartisan objective.
