Hospice honors Weston volunteer

weston-visiting-nurse-hospiThe volunteers of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County were honored recently at an awards ceremony and luncheon. Eight volunteers were singled out and received special recognition for their outstanding commitment, compassion and dedication to service.

Russ Levine of Weston received an award for his volunteer work on the agency’s Medical and Professional Advisory Committee; Verna Barrett of Wilton received an award for her work as a patient support volunteer; Judy Higby of Wilton received an award for her work on the agency’s Development Committee; Karen Wackerman of Wilton received an award for her volunteer work on the agency’s board of directors; Ann Cascella of Norwalk received an award for her volunteer work at the Turnover Shop of Wilton; Sarah Burke of New Canaan received an award for her work as an office support volunteer; and Helen DeBlasi of New Canaan received an award for her volunteer work at the New Canaan Thrift Shop.

Richard C. Frank, MD, of Fairfield, an oncologist/hematologist and director of cancer research at the Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital, received the agency’s highest honor — The Carol B. Bauer Community Spirit Award — for his outstanding volunteer service as medical director of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County.
