The newly appointed Weston Charter Revision Commission wasted no time in setting its first public hearing regarding possible changes to the charter.
The commission will hold the hearing on Wednesday, June 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the town hall Meeting Room.
The Board of Selectmen chose the seven members of the commission at its last meeting on June 10. Members are Ken Edgar, Nina Daniel, Michael O’Brien, Arne de Keijzer, Denny Brooks, Woody Bliss, and John Stripp.
All except Mr. Brooks, Mr. Stripp and Mr. O’Brien were on the previous Charter Revision Commission, which spent most of 2012 re-writing the town charter, which was approved by voters at referendum last November.
Since that time, some issues have come to light, especially in regard to the budget voting process. The Board of Selectmen determined a new commission should re-examine the charter and determine if changes can be made.
The new Charter Revision Commission was given until Oct. 31 to complete its work and to make recommendations for changes. That will give the Board of Selectmen time to put any recommendations on the Nov. 5 ballot.
All members of the public are welcome to attend the public hearing June 26 and to voice opinions or ask questions about the town charter.
