Weston police credit a vigilant neighbor and a cooperative police effort for the quick arrest of three men suspected in the burglary of a home on Godfrey Road East.

On Monday, June 17, shortly before noon, Weston police received a call about the burglary from the homeowner. Although she was home at the time of the burglary, she was in the shower and did not immediately notice anyone had entered her home. She called police after noticing some jewelry was missing. The back door of the house had been broken.

Police Sergeants Mike Ferullo and Pat Daubert, and Officer Chris Powers responded to the call. A neighbor had noticed a strange car in the homeowner’s driveway and was able to give police a thorough description of the vehicle as well as which direction it was headed after leaving the home.

Weston Communications Center broadcast a description of the vehicle to neighboring police departments, and around 1 p.m., Norwalk police and Officer Diane MacLean of Wilton stopped the vehicle on Route 7 at the Norwalk/Wilton town line.

Police recovered $23,000 worth of jewelry, which was identified by the Weston homeowner as missing from her home.

Police arrested the occupants of the vehicle, Derek Forsythe, 25, of Georgetown Road, Weston, Joseph Pagini, 24, of Guilford, and Thomas Lyden, 25, of Guilford, and charged each of them with burglary in the second degree, larceny in the first degree, criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools, and conspiracy to commit burglary.

Mr. Forsythe was initially held on $50,000 bond and the others were held on $25,000 bond.

Mr. Forsythe was arrested previously in Weston on May 30, after police and EMS responded to his home for a medical call. According to the police report, Mr. Forsythe had slurred speech and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. He was arrested and charged with violation of a protective order, unlawful possession of firearms (for possession of a pellet gun), and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sgt. Ferullo called the arrest a “good cooperative effort,” aided by a “vigilant neighbor.”

Weston Police Chief John Troxell commended the Weston, Wilton and Norwalk Police, and the communications center, for taking quick action. He also commended the neighbor who noticed the suspect vehicle.

“The police can’t be everywhere, so people are our eyes and ears. If you see something suspicious make sure you report it. It may be nothing, but it may be something. It makes all the difference,” he said.
