The Weston Women’s League (WWL) recently hosted its Fifth Annual Mother to Mother Baby Shower for clients of Norwalk’s Family and Children’s Agency family support programs.
More than 32 new mothers and mothers-to-be attended the festive luncheon held in the Grand Terrace room at the Norwalk Town Hall.
Each spring, WWL members collect gently used baby items from mothers in the Weston community and combine these with new diapers, clothing, supplies, and gifts in a decorative hamper. Collection bins were placed at Weston public schools and area preschools and mothers spread the word through social media.
“We had an abundance of donations this year,” said Margaret Krauss, WWL member and this year’s event chairman. “In addition to filling hampers with clothing, books, rattles, and blankets, we were able to raffle off larger items such as quilts, bouncy seats, toys for siblings, and give away some cribs and bassinets.”
WWL members knitted booties, and a group of seniors at RSVP of South Western Connecticut knitted hats for all of the babies. Jennifer Roh, a Westonite who recently founded Diaper Dailies, donated crib sheets and diaper bag kits.
Party favors for the moms included bracelets from Lulu Belle and luxurious creams from Weston dermatologist Dr. Tanya Futoryan of Westport Dermatology and Laser Center.
The baby shower featured festive decorations; a luncheon, sponsored in part by Whole Foods and Georgetown Cake Shoppe, craft tables for guests to decorate onesies, the raffle, and an immunization talk by the Norwalk Health Department.
Many of the mothers brought their new infants, ranging in age from a few weeks to 6 months old. Stacey Tucker, WWL president, commented, “This has become a popular event for our members. We love gathering baby gear and then creating such a fun occasion for FCA’s clients.”
