By popular demand, and a need to raise money, the WHS Boosters Club is re-starting its Saturday morning can and bottle collection at the Onion Barn every Saturday morning from 9 to noon.
“Historic buildings, such as the Onion Barn, periodically fall into disrepair. But with the town’s help and the barn restorer’s guidance, we got it done,” said Dawn Egan, president of the Weston High School Boosters Club. “I want to thank everyone for helping get this project completed and to all of you for holding on to as many of your cans and bottles as possible while we worked out this issue. We are excited to be back.”
Money raised from the collections help WHS Boosters purchase athletic equipment that the current school budget doesn’t cover, such as swimming blocks, cheerleading and wrestling mats, and new soccer goals. The money is also used to contribute to the club’s two turf fund accounts.
Members of the public may drop off recyclable cans and bottles at the rear side of the Onion Barn on Saturday mornings from 9 to noon. Each week, Weston High School athletes separate and bag them for the redemption company to collect once a month. The kids will even help unload them from a car.
