As of 1:30, the weather service was tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. The storm was located near Mount Kisco in Westchester County, N.Y. and moving northeast at 30 mph.
In addition to large hail and damaging winds, the weather service says continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
“Lightning is one of nature’s number one killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning,” the weather service storm warning states.
Heavy rainfall is possible today and into Friday morning, with rates of one to two inches per hour. Flash flooding is possible.
