The League of Women Voters of Weston is holding its 2013 annual luncheon and Betty Hill Forum, Friday, May 17, at the Red Barn Restaurant in Westport. The event is open to the public.

This year’s speaker is state Sen. John McKinney (R-28th District), who will discuss “The Power and Potential of Bipartisan Action.”

Mr. McKinney served as one of the co-chairmen of the General Assembly’s umbrella committee tasked with coming up with legislation on topics such as school safety, mental health and prevention of gun violence.

He is serving his seventh term in the state Senate representing the towns of Easton, Fairfield, Newtown, and Weston. He was elected minority leader of the Senate in June 2007 and is a ranking member on the General Assembly’s Housing and Legislative Management committees. He also serves on the Executive Nominations Committee.

The Weston League’s annual Betty Hill Forum is in its 14th year.

A reception begins at 11:30, followed by lunch and the program from noon to 2. The cost is $35; there is a cash bar. To make a reservation, contact Helen de Keijzer at 203-226-7830 or [email protected]
