Weston preschool kids ‘travel’ the globe

weston-globe,earth,travelSt. Francis of Assisi Preschool has created a new World Culture Program, to be incorporated into its curriculum. This preschool program spans a 30-week period, where the threes and fours classes focus for five-week clusters on the cultures of France, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, and the United States and conclude with a look at Weston.

The children learn about the language, food, music, and customs of each country and in the process gain an in-depth look into how each of these countries has influenced our own culture.

The children will work in cooperative groups on several hands-on projects, including construction of a famous building, creating the country’s flag, and activities that incorporate music, games, art, and food.

They begin their “travels” with a passport and a ticket for an imaginary plane ride across the globe. Throughout their “travels,” they discuss what they may see and experience in their host country.

St. Francis invites parents and community members who have lived in or traveled to these countries to share their experiences in planned discussions with the children.
